God’s Dwelling Place

“Heaven and earth, all the emperors, kings, and princes of the world, could not raise a fit dwelling-place for God; yet, in a weak human soul, that keeps His word, He willingly resides.”

Martin Luther

Isaiah 66:1-2

66 Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

The Lord who created the heavens and the earth is not confined to a small space or a building.  How can you confine something that huge?  When I walk outside, and look at the trees; I see God.  When I step outside, and the wind touches me; I feel God.  When I look up towards the sky, and bask in the sun, I see the clouds, and listen to the stillness of time; I can hear God. I see, feel, and hear God in everything, because His omnipresence is everywhere.  And then, I think to myself, “How can all of that be confined?!”

Where Does God Truly Dwell? & Where Is His Dwelling Place?

Solomon asked this question, “But will God indeed dwell on earth? Behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?” 1 Kings 8:27 Solomon had built God a house and wondered how could One who made heaven and earth live here!

God is omnipresent, which is being everywhere it is possible to be all at once.  And, since, heaven is His throne, and earth is His footstool; He is not limited to any “house” made by man.

Where Does God Truly Dwell? & Where Is His Dwelling Place?

47 But Solomon built him an house. 48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, 49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? 50 Hath not my hand made all these things?” Acts 7:47-50 This was spoken by the prophet Isaiah. Howbeit it is said again just as Isaiah prophesied it.

“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that hes is Lord of heaven, and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;” Acts 17:24

God is not looking for a house made of bricks. No way! He is not looking for stone, sticks, or straw.  He is no longer behind a curtain or a veil stored away in a some temple. He is the All-Mighty Jehovah!  The whole universe is His dwelling place, because all things were created by Him, and for Him.  Revelation 4:11 says that God created all things for His pleasure.  “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” Revelation 4:11

Where Does God Truly Dwell? & Where Is His Dwelling Place?

I say it again! Heaven is His throne, and earth is His footstool! For all those things hath His hand made, and all those things have been.  But to this man will He look to dwell, to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at His word.

Does God Truly Dwell In You & Are You His Dwelling Place?

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16

A poor and humble house who wants to make Jesus their all in and all.  A house where they opened up when Jesus stood at the door knocked, and they let Him come in.  A house who let Jesus take out the heart of stone, and give them a heart of flesh.  A house who let Jesus create in it a clean heart, and give it a right spirit.  A house that is built on the “Rock of Ages”, and a foundation that will stand that not even the gates of hell can prevail against it!  Is Jesus in your heart?  You see the true altar of the temple is our hearts.  Does God truly dwell in your temple.  Any temple can sing, any temple can play music, any temple can pray, but will your temple humble and worship Him!  The world will see you sing, dance, pray, play, preach, teach, and carry on jubilee celebrations, but will people see the glory fill the house when the presence of the Lord is near!  The Lord chose David, (Jerusalem) to dwell, and they are of Judah which is the line of Christ.  If you have accepted Jesus Christ to dwell within your hearts, then you have been a chosen dwelling place of the Lord!

Will You Allow Jesus To Dwell In Your House?

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:19
